Great article. America has certainly had her sins but she is a nation built upon Christianity and allegiance to God through Jesus Christ. We are the greatest country in the world and yet still a very young one. That came by favor from God. Sadly, so many don't see how great that relationship with and to God is. We've lasted through wars and slavery. We gotten things right and of course for every good there is evil biting at its heels trying to insure that our good only goes but so far or turns. The worst thing that happened to our country was taking the Bible out of schools. The next was for the churches to bend from the word of God and start making up doctrine to satisfy the worldly instead of unholding God. When churches fail the people, the people become a different kind of spirit filled through racism passed down generationally that allowed a great sin to continue in the land, to lazy spirits, selfish spirits, sexual spirits, greedy spirits. Thank God, we still have authority

Mr. Colson might as well have called this note: “Watered down civil religion without a speck of Biblical support". Though it is true that God’s Law explicitly and implicitly, “grants” people the right of ownership of whatever things they buy or work for, among other things. Most of the Biblical narrative, Law, and Prophetic calls are about personal and national accountability, duty and responsibility towards our neighbors and all fellow human beings. Those duties are also inalienable. Mr. Colson like the immense majority of Americans suffers from an endemic case of short and selective memory. He forgets or don’t want to remember that the Official name of this Country is the United States of America, and chooses to make a spurious argument about the 233 years of the Republic. Ignoring the facts that other Nations, Countries and Peoples have been around for thousand of years. A Republic of and of itself, is not more a virtuous form of Government than a Monarchy. We human beings are all equally created children of God. That is the Biblical concept, not the other. That the words of Jefferson are “immortal”; what a dream of the distinguished gentleman! Does he forgets that this World of which the USA is part of, is not going to last forever.
